Technology is advancing everyday at a very rapid pace and of late, great importance has been given to the aspect of fast transmission and delivery of traditional data resources through the employment of highly advanced multimedia services. ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is considered to be the latest technology in this field and is being utilized extensively as the solid foundation for both broadband and wireless infrastructures. Interlinking and networking of computers has assumed great importance and a lot of research has been done in this field leading to the WAN technology and when it was felt that a network was necessary that could transmit voice, data and video along with better graphics and video clips, research was directed towards higher bandwidth in telephone networks that could support higher capacity of data transmission. The result was the development of Ñasynchronous transfer mode in 1991. This ATM technology uses fiber optics as an essential medium for transmission of data. The following article discusses the benefits and limitations of ATM technology and its future prospects. Whereas it provides very high performance and high speed networking via hardware switching, dynamic bandwidth and scalability and it helps to implement backbone solutions for both private and public networks and simplifies network management, there are no real standards available as yet and there are serious inefficiencies when an intermediate switch drops. Moreover, there are no low latency interfaces. Although it levels the operating field for telephone, cable and utility industries, it still has a long way to go.

The dissertation presents a research project for a web service helping tourists to view online stereoscopic images on an auto monitor. A review of literature covers the theory of human binocular vision, the history of photography, display technologies, hardware and software for stereoscopic imaging, etc. The design of the service, its implementation, testing and evaluation of the system are reported on. Methods of secondary data collection and analysis are incorporated with primary data collection (questionnaires) at the evaluative and testing stage of the project. Conclusions are made about the strengths and drawbacks of the designed system.

This report is heavily focused around Human Computer Interaction. It is a detailed walkthrough of the entire HCI process for developing a User Interface: from user analysis, to task analysis, to prototyping, to usability testing. The report is primarily concerned with the development of a User Interface for a restaurant order taking system. In an existing system, restaurant orders are recorded using the traditional Ñpen and pad based method. This manual system is transformed into an electronic order taking system that runs on a Pocket PC (PDA) device. The report concludes by presenting a critical analysis of the new system together with recommendations for future work.
