The paper addresses the issue of air pollution (AP) providing definitions of AP, and examining environmental laws, the history of AP issues in the UK, and the policies and campaigns that offered solutions to AP problems. The strategy of the conducted research is described.
The paper examines whether the right to a viable environment is a basic human right. Related International law is reviewed including European Law, and domestic law. It is argued that the protection of this right should be enhanced clarifying what must be protected before adequate protection is achieved. It is highlighted that in times of paramount concern for the environment such a right should be enshrined in international law.
The paper offers a review of the film documentary "11th Hour" reflecting on the threats to humanity is going to face if we do not stop stressing the environment. The need for environmental-conscious campaigns is emphasized.
The paper looks at the international regime for the protection of forests around the globe identifying some of the shortcomings of this regime. The difference in perspective and priority between developed and developing states is outlined highlighting the need to achieve a consensus between North and South if forests are to be protected internationally.
