The paper examines the features of thermofluids describing the processes of heat transfer, i.e. conduction, convection, radiation, thermal insulation, etc.
The paper presents a creep life (CL) assessment of a pressurised thin walled cylinder for a high temperature application employing the Larson and Miller method. The relationship between CL and the wall thickness of the cylinder is studied to examine relationship between CL and the operating temperature of the cylinder. It is found that CL exponentially increases with the wall thickness of the cylinder and that CL is exponentially decreasing when the operating temperature is increasing.
The paper investigates stress parameters in plates with one hole, two holes and a crack predicting the principle stress round the holes, identifying the influence of mesh density, etc. References are made to non-linear and linear geometry; the mechanical properties of elastic and elasto-plastic material are discussed. Conclusions are made about the results of the Finite Element analysis of the studied model.
The paper investigates the fracture surfaces and materials of a propeller-shaft from a high-speed cruiser, and a tracking rod for a heated conveyor system. The design and service parameters of both elements are described; experiments are conducted to identify the causes of their failure. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is used to run a spectrum analysis test.
The paper examines the systems of rapid prototyping (RP) used in the casting industry describing the process of investment casting, comparing traditional methods with the rapid prototyping techniques and analysing their use in golf-club head manufacturing. Advantages and disadvantages of each RP system are identified.
The paper reports on the modelling of a cross-flow heat-exchanger (HE) presenting the design brief and layout of the project, making heat-transfer calculations, describing the elements used in design iterations, etc. A mesh refinement study is conducted to test the model's validity; the reliability of the solution is tested by varying the inlet parameters.
