The dissertation examines whether with the increase of fuel prices and a growing concern about the environment, logistics managers should consider switching to renewable fuels, especially biofuel, as a viable alternative to fossil fuels. Primary research is conducted in the form of interviews with oil producers and students; secondary data analysis is presented on the basis of a literature review related to the impact of renewables on logistics. Conclusions are made that biofuels are not currently economical for large scale usage; recommendations are suggested about the production and distribution of biofuels.

The dissertation reports on the performance of Tesco supermarket comparing their supply chain management (SCM) in the UK and in Thailand. Background information on Tesco's international operations is presented; research methodology is described as the interpretive approach and qualitative analysis of the secondary data including Tesco group documents. Literature is reviewed on the features of the retailing industry under globalisation, UK retail market characteristics, culture theories, supply chain operations, etc. Case studies of collaborative relationships in SCM are presented. Conclusions are made about the effectiveness of Tesco's SCM strategies suggesting recommendations to improve their quality of service.

This paper looks to critically examine the privatization of UK electricity company British Energy. The paper will look to examine the reasons, factors and also fundamentally the effect the change had on the Supply Chain function at British Energy. By process of default therefore I will also examine the difference between a public and private organization. More specifically however, the issue under consideration is whether the changes caused to British Energy’s supply chain after its privatization led to a positive or a negative result for the company as a whole. British Energy’s Supply Chain function will form the main area of focus in this research in order to provide direction and to specify this research to better examine the effects of privatisation in the energy sector.

Performance measurement and management has become increasingly important in the public sector in recent years due to the Governments desire to improve quality and value for money for the taxpayer. In a Social Services setting, Local Authorities are now ranked according to a Star Rating System, which places them along a continuum from the poorest performers (a zero star authority) to the best performers (a 3* authority). This dissertation asked how a Local Authority could use performance measurement and management systems to improve its star rating. In so doing, the performance measurement and management systems of seven Local Authorities were investigated and contrasted to look for best practice. The results of this analysis were then applied to a single Local Authority to suggest how it could improve its star rating. This dissertation would be useful for any student who wants to know how to tackle a large dissertation with multiple methods (both qualitative and quantitative), produce a solid methodology or know more about performance measurement and management.

The dissertation aims to examine the factors influencing the success of Information System (IS) projects reporting on a case study of the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) and providing a comprehensive review of the literature on project management (PM) criteria; implementation strategies; non-technical success factors for IS projects; research techniques, etc. The methods of data collection include quantitative, qualitative and combined approaches to the empirical case study, namely, interviews, documentation and analytical tools. The analysis of the SFHA was conducted using SWOT, PEST, Rich Picture, Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs) and Curries Four Stages of Growth Model. Case study findings are discussed in theoretical and practical context. Conclusions are made about defining the success of IS projects.
