This paper begins with a short reference to the issue of child abuse. It analyses the phenomenon and provides information regarding the ways in which child abuse can harm a child, both physically, mentally and emotionally. Further on, the study takes a closer look at four recorded cases of child abuse. The cases are analysed in a historical manner, mainly focusing on the suffering experienced by the children in each case. The ways in which the local authorities failed to stop these crimes are also stated. Finally, the study ends up with suggestions for paediatricians regarding the way in which they need to treat victims of child abuse.
