The paper looks at the theory of constraints (TOC) by Eli Golratt considering the technique of ‘throughput accounting” (TA), and comparing it to quality management (TQM) and just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing techniques. The evolution of TQM and JIT approaches is reviewed highlighting their similarities with TOC, the development of the TA technique is examined.
