The paper examines the methods that can be used to evaluate a train protection system offering a multi-objective approach and outlining its benefits. The monetary value of human life is discussed addressing the issues of accident probability and fatality rates, and using the Monte Carlo simulation. Conclusions are made about the usefulness of the method in making a decision to invest in the automatic train protection.
