The essay examines the notion and types of innovation as well as the impact of innovation on financial performance of a company. It is argued that innovation does not always lead to commercial success: certain conditions must have been met for a company to reap the rewards. The conditions, such as market-driven orientation, ability to protect new ideas and innovations, and to market them aggressively afterwards are also discussed in the paper.
