This paper looks at the coverage of the moon landing (21.07.69) in the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The paper looks at two newspapers, Neues Deutschland in the GDR and Der Spiegel in the FRG. The style and content of the reports from both publications are compared and analysed, and the paper then places them within the relevant historical and political context. The aim of the study is to assess the media’s power in both the FRG and GDR in regards to promoting certain ideologies.
