This paper examines the effect of the internet on journalism and the newspaper industry. the study begins by presenting an overview of the topic, and aims to explore the debate on economic versus moral rights in respect to news coverage and access to information, investigate how the newspaper industry has been affected by the internet and has been forced to change, and examine the paywall model and whether it can compete with the free content news by restricting general news content. The case study used for this paper is Murdoch’s Paywall. Data is collected through analysis of existing literature, and the paper discusses economic vs free content, Paywall vs Free news on the internet, and the evolution of media. The paper concludes by assessing the Paywall approach.
