The dissertation examines the influence of the state political and legal system on online journalism addressing the freedom of the press in two countries, Britain and Serbia. Literature is reviewed on the link between politics, law and press freedom, the opportunities of free expression offered by the Internet, the history of human rights in the UK and Serbia, etc. The methods of the research are based on the qualitative analysis of secondary academic and legal sources. Conclusions are made about the role of the new media in promoting democratic freedoms in Serbia.
