The paper looks at the political, socioeconomic and historical development of public communication and media in Afghanistan since the beginning of the 20th century examining the development of print and electronic media, the challenges and opportunities for public communication offered by new technologies, the issues faced by public communication and media at present, etc. Research methodology is based on the secondary sources related to public relations, communication studies and the history of the country. Conclusions are made about successes and failures of Afghan print and electronic media and their relation to public communication development.
