The paper examines a new approach to TV documentaries introduced by the so-called “docusoap” reviewing the debate about their educational nature, exploring the concept of the documentary cinema and evaluating the role of “docusoap” in the 21st century. References are made to other new concepts, i.e. ‘infotainment’ and ‘dumbing down’ discussing risks and benefits associated with them.
