The dissertation addresses the lack of “access for justice” with regard to environmental law and environmental protection within UK local communities examining the criteria proposed by the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Literature is reviewed on the theory of public participation (PP), PP under Aarhus Convention, PP under the EIA Directive in the UK, etc. Case studies are conducted of the New Haven waste transfer site in East Sussex New Quay, Bridport waste management facility, Skip Hire to Waste Management Transfer and Process Site Brinks Binders Yard, biomass wind power site in Buckinghamshire, etc. Conclusions are made about the policies of public engagement in the environmental undertaken in the studied areas.
