This essay attempts to critically discuss whether the new forms of management that have emerged actually solve the problems of organisations by analysing this development of management. It considers some of the earlier schools of thought on management and organisations, including that of Karl Marx and Max Weber, to establish an understanding of the background to modern work and organisations, noting the problems that are apparent. The key developments in management, such as the pioneering work of Frederick Taylor and Elton Mayo will be studied next. It will then carefully analyse new management techniques, such as Just-In-Time production, Total Quality Management and Human Resource Management, evaluating how effective these new techniques are, and if they actually solve the problems of organisations.
