The paper examines the drivers of change within the pharmaceutical industry suggesting the use of ‘force field’ and SWOT analysis to identify the factors that need to be changed and the factors that resist change. Recommendations about change management in pharmaceutical companies are suggested arguing that they can no longer rely on the promotion of primary care products for mass market consumption, highlighting the need for extensive research and development (R&D), and discussing the Pugh’s change matrix.
