This dissertation analyses various health and safety issues involved during the refurbishment of occupied properties. The study selected two councils and surveyed 60 occupants and two project managers in order to draw conclusions about any correlations there may be between the two. As this research is exploratory and descriptive in nature, both qualitative and quantitative methods are employed to identify the various health and safety issues, though predominantly qualitative research is preferred as the various health and safety issues from both the occupants as well as the builder’s perspectives are being explored. The research uses both open ended and close ended questions to identify the health and safety issues faced by the stakeholders during the refurbishment process. A comparison of the work ethic of the suppliers is made and how this can affect the customer’s perception of the refurbishment experience is examined.
