This paper examines the issue of risk management, and uses the case study of the British Petroleum (BP) oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico as a case study. The paper begins by outlining the concept of risk management, and provides the background to BP. Information regarding the disaster is provided, and the reasons behind it are identified. The impact that it caused is discussed, and the paper then examines preventive measures that could have been put in place. Conclusions are made regarding the way in which gas companies should manage their activities.
