The dissertation investigates the outcome of introducing a disaster management system known in the UK as Integrated Emergency Management (IEM) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to mitigate the harm of road traffic collisions (RTC). Literature is reviewed on the traffic problem in the UAE, the types and statistics of traffic accidents, the British IEM system and its application in UAE. The methods of the research are based on secondary and primary data obtained from questionnaires and interviews. Conclusions are made about lack of co-ordination amongst RTC related agencies in Abu Dhabi, and a correlation between mortality rate and traffic rules violation. An introduction of legislation to impose sanctions on reckless drivers is argued.
