The paper analyses the images of women in the story “Baryshnia-Krest’ianka” by Alexander Pushkin, the early 19th century Russian author and poet, arguing that Pushkin undermines the sentimental social stereotype of a noble “country miss” depicting Lisa as a creative, smart and brave young lady who pokes fun at gender stereotypes of her time.
