The paper examines three texts considering the ways in which language is used to represent voice and vision and showing how much the creation of a distinctly Australian voice or vision affects text interpretation and meaning. The analysed texts are the ‘Wombat’, a poem by Douglas Stewart, ‘Public Places’, a poetic piece of prose by Joanne Burns, and ‘Strictly Ballroom’, a film by Baz Luhrmann.
