The paper seeks to understand one of the salient aspects of creative writing, i.e. the ability to write from another person's perspective including ethnic background. Examples of such identity shift are analysed using William Styron's “The Confessions of Nat Turner” written from the perspective of a black slave and a novel by Joyce Carol Oates “Black Girl/White Girl”.
