The paper proposes research into the influence of housing benefits on the behaviour of lone parents and ‘in and out’ parents. The aims and objectives of the research are formulated, literature is reviewed on the issues surrounding housing benefits considering whether benefit claimants can become worse off or no better off when they begin to work.
