The paper looks at the socio-cultural aspects of hosting the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games examining the perceptions of the Games in the residents of Manchester. Literature is reviewed on socio-cultural impacts of mega-events describing their positive and negative sides. A study is conducted using secondary and primary research methods based on the questionnaire distributed across the host community. Conclusions are made about whether the Games were successful or not in terms of attendance, participation and socio-cultural impacts.
