This paper looks at how a cognitive theory, known as Health Belief, has been used in health promotion campaigns to influence and predict individual behavioural change. It examines how predicting behavioural change can be based on the variables of perceived threat, benefits and barriers, as well as cues to action and self-efficacy. The model’s important role in health promotion campaigns is highlighted through the use of examples of health messages such as promoting healthy diets and an active lifestyle.
