This dissertation aims to examine suicide in Europe, focusing specifically on the way in which peoples psychosocial status and suicide behaviors affect the success rate of the act of suicide. The objectives are to undertake statistical analysis of the national statistics of 5 countries to identify to what extent suicide is growing in Europe, to investigate the link between mode, place and distance from home and the act of suicide through qualitative thematic analysis (QTA) analysis, and to analyse the impact of suicide in Europe and what actions need to be taken to improve resilience to suicide and increase more effective prevention interventions. The paper presents a detailed review of literature on the topic, and data is collected through analysis of national statistics on suicide rates, QTA analysis of 100 cases of suicide and attempted suicide in regards to motives and distance. These results will be discussed alongside the theory on the topic.
