The dissertation looks at the increasing role of governmental intelligence in the present-day conditions of terrorism and global conflicts. The review of literature touches on the definitions of intelligence, the relationship between governments and intelligence, the role of intelligence in the current socio-economic climate, the challenges of terrorism for the intelligence, global intelligence agencies, e.g. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), the importance of intelligence sharing and intelligence training, etc. The functions of intelligence agencies are outlined, their use by governments is explained. The dissertation employs qualitative research methodology based on the analysis of secondary data relevant to the study. Conclusions are made about the need to create intelligence agencies around the world.
