C/P/240. Can oil trade practices be adopted for the trading of gas?

WORDS:

DATE:
2010
PRICE:
39.99 GBP

The paper examines whether oil trade practices can be adopted or have influenced the international trading of gas. OPEC’s role in relation to price and supply and demand is a major feature of the research, and the work also examines the negative side of cartel power – its influence over national domestic policy, for example. The possibility of the creation of a ‘Gas OPEC’ in the form of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is also considered, as is the increasing dependency of nations, such as the US, on imported gas – a situation which could lead to gas producers exerting undue influence over international relations and fixing gas prices at high rates.
