The paper examines the concept of genocide with references to the United Nations (UN) law and the humanitarian functions of International organisations (IO). The role of IO in protecting groups of population from genocide is explored using the examples of Roma Gypsies, Rwanda and Bosnia. Activities of the International Criminal Court (ICC) are discussed.
