This dissertation aims to evaluate the reasons why extreme right wing and anti-immigration political parties rise in Sweden. The study begins by detailing background information to the subject, and outlines the papers main goals. The research questions are “Why do extreme right political parties emerge and rise in Sweden?’ ‘What role does the legacy of fascism play in the case of the extreme right parties in Sweden?’ ‘In what ways do the social and economic conditions in Sweden constitute a fertile ground for the rise of the extreme right political parties?’ ‘Is immigration a major factor behind the rise of extreme right parties in Sweden?’ ‘In what ways does the party system in Sweden constitute a fertile ground for the rise of the extreme right political parties?’ The research methodology is detailed, and the study then examines literature on extreme right wing political parties in Western Europe. The review of literature also evaluates the challenges that defining extreme right wing parties. The dissertation then examines the extreme right wing in Sweden, and examines the history of fascism, as well as the structural, political, and ideological dimensions.
