The paper looks at the concepts of reality and image discussing the problems that arise when defining “reality”. It is argued whether a clear physical definition of the real is possible, and whether illusion can be considered as a real experience. Philosophers' ideas on the subject are reviewed including those of D. H. Lawrence, Baudelaire, Zola, John Jervis, Walter Benjamin, Steven Best, etc. Conclusions are made about lack of distinction between image and reality and its effect on the postmodernist culture.
