This proposal presents the plan for a dissertation that aims to focus on the empowerment of women lawyers in Saudi Arabia. The objectives are to explore the current Saudi legal system and the requirements of the role of male guardianship under Islamic law, to identify the role of equality under Islamic law, i.e. explore the debate, to examine current empowerment literature and human rights approaches and identify their applicability to Islamic law, and to investigate the potential benefits and disadvantages of the new law of allowing women lawyers into family courts. The review of literature aims to discuss topics like the Islamic theory on women, empowerment theories, feminist theories, western views, and Islamic views. Data will be collected through comparative case law analysis. The analysis, findings, and discussion sections are also detailed.
