The study begins by outlining the conceptual background, and identifies the specific challenges that electronic contracting raises for lawmakers. The united nations (UN) convention on contracts for the international sale of goods is discussed in detail. This is followed by a detailed discussion regarding the UN convention on the use of electronic communications in international contracting 2005, (UNCECIC). The European union e-commerce directive is discussed, along with the UN model law on electronic commerce 1996. All of the topics are summarized, and the paper concludes with recommendations.
