This proposal is for a study that focuses on preventing and combating torture in Africa, and pays specific attention to Libya, Cote d'ivorie, Egypt, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Senegal, Gambia, and South Africa. The legal position of torture is discussed, and the role that non-Governmental and International Organisations play in its prevention is discussed. The proposed timeframe is outlined, as is the contribution that this study may have to the field in general.
