The paper addresses the issue of moral judgement in courts of law analysing two opposite views on whether conviction should be based upon merely legal precedent or upon accepted ethical values as well. The arguments related to law and morality are reviewed considering the so-called ‘Connection Thesis' and the ‘Separation Thesis' and discussing the views of Hoffman, Ward, Dworkin, Fuller, Hume, etc. References are made to related law cases.
