A critical analysis of the main provisions of the family friendly legislation currently place in Britain and its specific impact on the contractual relationship between employer and employee/worker. Acts governing laws relating to maternity, paternity and parental leave and subsequent pay are discussed along with the rise of flexible working hours in order to care for dependents. The evolution of family friendly legislation is discussed including amendments made in the EPA 1975, important modifications to the ERA 1999, The Employment Act 2002 and the Work and Families Act 2006. They are seen to have both positive and adverse effect on the employer/employee relationship and that the ECJ have a major role in the UK law.
