This paper aims to analyse the reason why the UK has a low rate of criminal convictions for rape and sexual assault, by focusing on the statistics of conviction as well as the victims of sexual assault and the trouble they have being believed. Spousal rape, prostitution, consent while intoxicated, victims not going through with charges, he said/she said testimony, and false allegations are analysed as the problems with getting convictions. The effect that focusing on low conviction rates can have is also analysed, and the paper evaluates the results and concludes by summarising the topics discussed.
