This paper examines the strict tortuous liability law of defective products, which was introduced by the first part Consumer Protection Act 1987 (“CPA”). The paper is split into two parts, the first of which aims to analyses whether the enactment of the law has had the effect that manufacturers feared they would. This section uses a wide selection of past cases to further the discussion, like, Foster v Biosil, Richardson v LRC Products Ltd, and Tesco Stores Ltd v Pollard. The first part concludes by assessing whether the act has affected this area of law. The second section provides an annotated bibliography of some of the sources used for this paper, concentrating on books like C Elliot & F Quinn, Tort Law, (2007) 6th edition, Pearson Education Ltd. The annotations assess who and why the sources proved helpful to the study.
