This paper follows a recent visit of a NATO mission in Afghanistan. The paper aims to examine the current situation in the country, and presents the involvement of NATO in the conflicts. The rationale for NATO’s involvement is assessed, and the paper then examines the positive outcomes of this. These include the support of the Afghanistan elections, NATO helping to eradicate narcotic plants in Afghanistan, and the creation of fear amongst the Taliban. The challenges that face NATO are highlighted as strained relations between Afghanistan and the US and forcing Taliban forces to negotiate or surrender. The paper recommends that NATO Establish better relations with the Afghanistan President and Work closer with the Afghanistan Government Departments in order to address these challenges.
