This dissertation discusses knowledge management (KM) in relation to the United Nations (UN). The background to KM is provided, and the study aims to examine KM in relation to the UN’s role in the development of the Brazilian educational sector. The dissertation aims to examine the need for KM in Latin America, to assess the UN’s role there, to discuss the need for knowledge sharing in the Brazilian public sector, to analyse the process of knowledge sharing in the Brazilian educations sector, and to assess the impact of the UN’s dissemination of knowledge on the social development of Brazil. The review of literature discusses topics like KM and how affective it is, Non governmental organisations (NGO’s), UNDESA, the role of the UN, and the UN and Brazil. The methodology section provides detailed information regarding data collection and research methods, and data is collected through examination of documents, journals, newspapers, and a telephone interview. The paper then discusses the findings in great detail, and concludes by suggesting recommendations.
