S/H/183. An analysis of strategic paralysis

This paper looks at strategic paralysis, in relation to air power and aims to decide whether it is a realistic concept or not by focusing on theories by Colonel John Boyd and John Warden. Boyd. Boyd suggested a decision making process with four phases Observe, Orientate, Decision and Act (OODA loop), and suggested that it is possible to defeat an enemy by penetrating their OODA loop. Warden believed it was possible to defeat an enemy by attacking their centre of gravity, suggesting five levels, leadership, key production, infrastructure, population, and fielded forces. The paper analyses both theories suggesting how and why at times they may not be viable theories.
