This paper discusses the role of air power in the Iran-Iraq War, aiming to argue whether air power was used to dissuade the opposition from intensifying the war. The paper also analyses the way in which both countries used the air power, suggesting it was for mainly untraditional ways. The fact that neither country wanted to intensify the war for fear of foreign intervention, leads the paper onto the discussion of air power being used as deterrence.
