This paper examines the role that India played in relation to international trade in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The pattern that international trade played throughout this period is discussed in direct reference to India. The influence that the British Empire had on Indian trade is discussed, and the benefits that the empire gained through Indian trade are all assessed. The way in which trade changed over this period and after the first world war is also discussed.
