The dissertation addresses the problem of teaching children with special educational needs (SEN) investigating the effectiveness of the methods of active learning used by a Learning Support Unit (LSU) for teaching SEN children an English junior school. The background of the Inclusion Education is reviewed making references to related legislation, the role of play in the active learning programmes is evaluated. A study is conducted using a questionnaire to investigate the attitudes of children and teachers towards LSU classes. Conclusions are made about the effectiveness of the activities and learning methods in the LSU.
