The dissertation addresses the problem of secondary school teachers’ job satisfaction in the public sector. Literature is reviewed on the theories of motivation and job satisfaction in the teaching profession considering various aspects of teachers’ profession, i.e. recruitment, retention, pay, work-life balance, pupils’ behaviour, etc. The methods of the research are based on the analysis of secondary data and primary data obtained from online questionnaires and telephone interviews with secondary school teachers. Conclusions are made about the levels of teachers’ job satisfaction with regard to the mentioned variables identifying workload and pupils’ behavior as the most serious issues in the teaching profession.
