This paper focuses on a child’s experience of language at home, and their levels of achievement at primary school. The paper discusses four key factors that can impact a child’s achievement at school, the affluence of the family, the education of the parents, the employment level of the parents, and if English is the parents second language. These are all discussed alongside Piaget’s theory (1959), which is examined in detail. The application of the theory is examined, and the paper then discusses the idea of marginalisation. This is discussed in order to improve early verbal and language skills.
