The paper addresses the need to protect employee rights and welfare using a case study of a private Pakistani bank Habib Bank Limited (HBL) and evaluating the role of trade unions (TU) in maintaining the welfare of the workers. Literature is reviewed on TU history, TU role in promoting health and safety at the workplace, the concept of learning organisation, collective bargaining, legal employee representation, etc. The methods of the research employ secondary sources and primary data collected via questionnaires. Conclusions are made about the contribution of TU in the promotion of employee welfare at HBL. Recommendations are suggested to the bank’s practising managers.
