The dissertation examines the use of psychometric tests aiming to establish their effectiveness in helping human resource (HR) departments in the UK to select the right candidates. Theoretical literature is reviewed on the issues of staff recruitment, the effects of the current recession on British HR departments, the use of psychometrics in recruitment and selection, types of psychometric tests, the effectiveness of traditional methods in staff recruitment, etc. The methodology of the research is based on the analysis of secondary data and primary data obtained from questionnaires distributed among young HR managers. Conclusions are made about the attitudes of HR managers towards psychometric tests and traditional methods of hiring. Recommendations are suggested to HR managers about the use of CV and psychometric tests as methods of employee recruitment.
