The dissertation examines the impact of the new recruitment strategy of fixed term contract on employee motivation conducting a case study of Caerphilly Council’s recruitment policy. Literature is reviewed on the theories of motivation and HRM including the benefits of the fixed term employment and flexible work, employees’ commitment in the workplace, the link between fixed term contracts and employee motivation, etc. The methodology of the research is based on the analysis of secondary data and primary data obtained from questionnaires distributed among the workers of the Caerphilly Council. Conclusions are made about the correlation between fixed term contracts used by the Council as a method of cost reduction, and the levels of their staff motivation.
