The paper looks at the relationship between employee motivation and performance in organisations exploring the methods that can be used to motivate employees. Theories of motivation are reviewed including Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, McGregor’s X and Y theory and Herzberg’s X&Y theory. Conclusions are made applying theoretical approaches to the role of motivation in company success.
